When you have error 1013 updating iPhone 4 to 4.2.1, windows users may follow the steps mentioned below.
Open notepad as administrator
There click on file
Then click open
Go to c:windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
Open the file and remove whole ".gs.apple.com" line and save it.
Restore your iPhone 4 to 4.2.1 and you are good to go.
It worked for me:-)
